A new report has suggested that the amount of money spent on internet advertising will continue to rise consistently from 2010 onwards.

Internet Advertising Spending 'Set to Rise' The study by eMarketer showed that the sector may have managed 0.9 per cent growth during this year’s difficult economic climate, to reach $6,253 million (£3,819 million).

However, an increase of 4.7 per cent has been forecast in 2010 and 9.6 per cent in 2011.

The market research company claimed that the recession has made pay per click services and other online promotion more sophisticated.

"Though the final tally must wait until early next year, eMarketer expects UK online ad spending to show hard-won gains in 2009 and regain momentum in 2010 and beyond," explained the firm.

A survey by the European Interactive Advertising Association, which was quoted by eMarketer, indicated that 84 per cent of respondents across the continent are happy with the web as an advertising medium.

Recently, the company predicted that online advertising spending in the US could increase by 5.5 per cent in 2010.
