Online retailers are not worried about the impact of another postal strike around Christmas, according to an industry insider.

Postal strike 'not a worry for online retailers' David Smith, director of operations at IMRG, claimed that most firms are confident they could deal with an unexpected strike by Royal Mail, since many have now switched to alternative suppliers.

He also highlighted research carried out by e-Digital Research on behalf of his organisation which suggests that SEO marketing services may be beneficial over the festive season.

It indicated that 93 per cent of consumers are thinking of doing some of their Christmas shopping online, with 75 per cent planning on doing all of it on the internet.

His comments were made following another study involving IMRG, which predicted that shoppers may decide to shop earlier this year, because they are worried about the prospect of a postal strike.

Mr Smith added: "Online shopping is proving remarkably resilient through the recession and during the recent Royal Mail strike as well."
