Google has claimed that its new Social Search tool could be beneficial to consumers when they are surfing the web, as it makes the process more relevant and personal.

Google Claims Social Search Could Improve its Service Writing on the company’s official blog, technical lead for Social Search Maureen Heymans and technical lead for Social Image Search Terran Melconian revealed that the application is being rolled out on the Google.com over the next few days.

They commented: "We think there’s tremendous potential for social information to improve search and we’re just beginning to scratch the surface."

Firms using internet marketing techniques such as SEO services may be interested to hear that Social Search alters the results a person is offered by the company’s search engine, including content posted by friends and people linked to the searcher high up in the rankings.

The two Google representatives announced that the tool can also be used for images.

This week, the firm revealed that it is trying to encourage students to study science, technology, engineering and maths by investing in high schools, awarding scholarships, working alongside universities and awarding grants to positive organisations.
