Google has announced that it is rolling out a new feature to its image search, which it claims will allow more results to be shown on a page.

Google 'roll out image development' The search engine giant will begin showing image results in differing sizes, depending on how relevant a picture is, writes software engineer Alex Petcherski on the company’s blog.

He explained that the more confident Google is that it has found the correct picture, the larger that image will be on a users results page.

In the eyes of an SEO company it may mean providing more accurate descriptions around images, but Mr Petcherski predicted that it could make searches easier.

"We’re able to show you more pictures than before, so you have more to choose from. As always, you can click on an image to see it full size," he wrote.

This week, Google announced that it is offering free tools for towns to provide an accurate representation of their area for Google Earth.
