An industry expert has indicated that in 2010 there will be more emphasis placed on local search results and businesses should react to that.
David Hollands-Hurst, SEO consultant for Pixl8, highlighted that this change will affect users of Google, Bing and Yahoo!.
He suggested that it will be a good idea for businesses to make it clear to search engines that their firm is based in a specific region, as it will have an impact on how well SEO services perform.
Mr Hollands-Hurst explained: "They are going to put more emphasis on the local search, so they will see where you are and serve up results that are close to where you are if they think it’s relevant."
In his view, it should be obvious from a company’s website which region it is in, since it will help the organisation commercially.
According to a study by IAB Europe and InSites Consultancy, 40 per cent of online consumers will only check the first ten results of a search query.
