Consumers are altering the way they book holidays and choosing to carry out transactions online rather than in high street travel agents, according to new research.
The recent ecustomer service index survey put together by IMRG and eDigital Research found that 48 per cent of people are more likely to shop online for their trips abroad this year.
Co-founder and director of eDigital Research Chris Russell pointed out that this is an opportunity for many companies.
He suggested that increasing web marketing budgets on techniques such as SEO services is a positive step, but it is also important to invest in a good quality website.
Mr Russell explained: "With more people hunting for better deals online with less disposable income, companies need to concentrate on ensuring that the customer journey is seamless from the homepage to the purchase and delivery."
This week, director of operations at IMRG David Smith claimed that online retail is popular in the UK because consumers have access to credit cards and established brands appear there.
