Online retailers could see plenty of business this Christmas as a result of internal and external factors, a sector commentator has suggested.

Online Retailers 'Set for a Boost this Christmas' There is often an increase in online sales when the UK experiences poor weather, since people realise the convenience of shopping from the comfort of their own home, explained eDigital Research director Chris Russell.

According to research by the company, 34 per cent of web customers shop on the internet because of this convenience, which supports the use of SEO services.

Mr Russell claimed that the internal factor which should increase online spend this year is that customers are more aware that there is greater consistency in ensuring deliveries are on time.

He added: "The revision of some contracts following industrial action by the postal workers has certainly brought some more realism this year to available capacity."

A recent report by the Interactive Media in Retail Group suggested that festive shopping on the internet may end later than ever this year, with orders for Christmas delivery being taken until December 23rd by the Royal Mail.
