When reviewing your websites statistics in Google Analytics just be careful when you are reviewing the statistic Average Time On Site from your Dashboard. It is important to remember that this data can be skewed really easily by a small number of visitors to your website.
It only takes one visitor to leave your site open in their browser while they take a telephone call to increase this stat.
If you see improvements with this statistic drill down deeper in your analytics account and view the report, Time on Site for All Visitors. This report will show the average time on site broken down by day. This will allow you to see if they have been any days where there is any extraordinary user activity on your website.
Go on, you may be surprised by the results.

Are you using a H1 Tag on your site? If so, are you using it to it’s full potential?
Many people seem to realise that they should include H1 Tags on their site but not many seem to use them in the most productive way. Most sites will wrap their company name or worst still their company logo into a H1 Tag. Other favourites seem to be “Latest News” or “Other Products”.
What a waste!
So many sites are missing the benefit of the H1 Tag. Search engines class the text used within this tag as highly important, so why fill it with useless information like “Latest News”? That’s not a phrase you’re looking to be ranked for.
Your H1 Tag is also a page heading for your visitors as much as a tool used to inform search engines about important terms. So use it as such. If your site is focused on selling “Wooden Widgets” then shout it out and use your H1 Tag as your megaphone. Let the search engines know. Let everyone know. Use strong relevant terms and help let the search engines know what your site is really about.

We’re in! The move was successful and we have now moved from our managed Regus offices in Whiteley, Fareham to our new premises in Park Gate, Southampton.
It has been a long slog to get all of the cat5 cabling, phone systems, servers and techie bits installed in time to enable a smooth move in but it couldn’t have gone better. We are now up and running without a minutes downtime so it’s business as usual.
So make sure you update your contact addresses for us (telephone numbers stay the same) and if you’re in the area why not pop in for a chat and say hi?

Well, today is the last day in our present office with Regus (more on that later) before we move to our own premises. Our new offices are just a short way from Whiteley in Park Gate (near Southampton).
Our MD Ben has been busy getting the new building ready for us all and is already in talks for a new series called ‘Business Property Ladder’ with him playing the Sarah Beeny role.
We’re all looking forward to the move and settling in to our new offices.

It comes around fast and we are here again! Impact Media is two today.
The time goes so fast but we have come along way in the last two years from a small startup company to one of the south’s leading search engine marketing companies.
Why have we done so well? We are search marketing specialists. We don’t do web design, hosting or email marketing; we specialise purely in search engine optimisation and managed pay per click. Because of this we can devote all of our time to staying at the top of our game and ensuring that our clients achieve great results from their search marketing campaigns.
So, Happy Birthday to us and thank you to all of our clients who have helped us get this far!

With the ever increasing popularity of the Internet, it comes as no surprise that more and more people are finding a new career in search marketing.
The problem, of course, is how do you explain to someone else what it is you do exactly? Perhaps you shouldn’t worry? For my part, I just ask if they use a search engine, such as Google or Yahoo, and then explain I help people with websites get their site listed higher in the search engines so that their products or services get seen by targeted visitors.
With that out of the way, would you want a job in search? Is an online marketing career something you’d be proud to do and enjoy at the same time? Of course, the answer is ‘it depends’ but generally speaking, a career in the fast moving Internet industry can be both exciting and rewarding at the same time. If you find yourself working in the right search marketing company then you’d be hard pushed to find a job that offers as much scope for change as a career in search marketing. Add to that the feel good factor of knowing that you’re contributing to another company’s success and you’re on for a really good career*
* that is if you enjoy working on the Internet and spending hours trawling through keywords, links and web pages!
At Impact Media we’re a fast growing, UK-based search marketing company always on the look out for the right people to join our team. Attitude is more important than experience. We work hard but believe in fun at the same time, as our table football can testify!
Our offices are located in Hampshire, about midway between Portsmouth and Southampton. If you have some search marketing experience, either in SEO or Pay Per Click (PPC) or are an enthusiastic individual who can demonstrate a keen interest in the Internet and willingness to learn, why not contact us or review our current jobs in search marketing.

Yesterday was the Impact Media Christmas outing which ended up being a bit of a triathlon.
Stage 1 - Go-Karting
It all started off with a friendly go-karting session (who are we kidding? More like all out war…) where the field was split: the crazy and the crazier! After the warm up / qualifying session (or to the competitive ones amongst us the first race) pole position went to Rob with 2nd going to Ben and 3rd to Adrian. The green lights of race time then came and Ben managed to catch the confident Rob napping for entry into pole position and the race was on. The race for pole was fast and furious between Ben and Rob with them managing to lap the rest of the group.
Rob #2 (IT Dude) gave up racing when he realised he had no driving skill so instead resorted to bumper-car techniques and made up his own game of seeing how many times he could run Andy off the track. Andy claimed it was 5 times in total ‘though, of course, this couldn’t be verified.
When the chequered flag came down, it was Ben that came in victorious over a disappointed Rob. Ben leapt onto the podium to collect the winners trophy followed by Rob a very close 2nd and Hannah in 3rd after a somewhat controversial overtaking manoeuvre on an orange light.
Stage 2 - Ten Pin Bowling
Next came the bowling which was split between 2 games: the practice and the main event. The games may have been split but the results were pretty similar for both of the games. Lucy ended up being the dark horse among us and although swearing blind she was no pro, beginners luck can only go so far. The real shock came when Andy managed to just pip Lucy to first place with a few well placed / lucky strikes.
Andy picked up his first ever trophy, a tasteful bowling pin money box in green. He immediately set about locating the nearest engraver…
Stage 3 - Food
By this time we were all starved so we finished the day off with a meal, drinks and discussions of the days antics!
A good time was had by all ‘though we can’t wait another 12 months before a bowling re-match.
